CSA has developed two families of suspension systems for
simulating true free-free boundary conditions in dynamic testing of
structures, and for producing a very high level of isolation from
environmental disturbances in testing of sensitive structures and
instruments. The Dash-Zero systems are all passive and well suited to common
modal tests where the weight of the test article must be supported with very
low stiffness, small added mass, and no friction over a vertical range of
motion of a few inches. The Dash-Dx series adds sensors for vertical
displacement, acceleration, and force plus a non-contact voice coil actuator
with supporting electronics. The Dash-Dx family adds capabilities for remote
monitoring, integrated disturbance injection with no added stiffness, mass
cancellation, high-accuracy variable stiffness control, and other special
capabilities for research and development.
Both families of suspension systems use a unique
frictionless air spring and air bearings to produce vertical suspension
frequencies below 0.2 Hz for payloads from less than 20 lbs to over 5000 lbs
per suspension device. The unmatched performance of the devices has allowed
customers to complete dynamic tests not otherwise possible. Both families
are well proven over 15 years in a wide range of applications.
Systems are available for use in vacuum and in a wide range
of sizes and options. For more information, e-mail suspension@csaengineering.com.
